BANGALORE: Apogee Networks, a company offering IP content,

rating, billing and settlement platforms, and Jataayu, which offers the Wireless

Application Protocol (WAP) Gateway solution, announced that they have achieved

interoperability between the Jataayu WAP Gateway and Apogee Networks NetCountant

Billing platform.

The two companies claimed that for the first time wireless

carriers and data providers will be able to bill for actual Internet content

delivered to wireless subscribers. Currently, the ability to measure, identify,

rate and bill for actual Internet content delivered over wireless networks has

been limited, a release said.

The Jataayu WAP Gateway provides the link between the mobile

network and the Internet. This linkage allows WAP-enabled mobile devices to

request WAP-based services, such as access to Internet content, the release

added. This content might include text, video, music or any other forms of

content found on the Internet. In addition, other content transactions will

include financial, entertainment and location services. NetCountant Billing

provides the capability to measure, identify, rate and bill for Internet

content.

In addition to billing, the interoperability between the WAP

Gateway and NetCountant platform will also support revenue settlements between

Internet content providers and wireless service providers. "This

achievement by Jataayu and Apogee Networks is a milestone which will accelerate

the ability of wireless carriers to offer different content menus to their

subscriber bases," observed HTRC Group, LLC principal analyst and founder

Greg Howard. "The HTRC Group forecasts that the delivery of content over

wireless mediums will increase over time as wireless overcomes the issues of

limited bandwidth and handset ergonomics. By interconnecting its NetCountant

Billing solution with Jataayu’s WAP Gateway, a significant industry hurdle has

been overcome," added Howard.
