SRIHARIKOTA: The INSAT 4-C satellite today disintegrated over the Bay of
Bengal shortly after launch, due to a technical snag.
The INSAT-42 launch failure came a day after the Agni-III nuclear-capable
ballistic missile failed and plunged into sea off Orissa.
The GSLV-FO2, took off from the Sriharikota station shortly after at 5.30 p.m.
Soon after the liftoff, it exploded.
“There seems to be a mishap in the first stage of launch. We have to analyse the
data,” said G Madhavan Nair, director of Indian Space Research Organisation.
The jubilation of the scientists at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre was short
lived as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F02) carrying the
INSAT-4C communication satellite deviated away from its projected path and
turned into a ball of fire.
