InnoPath currently chairs the working group, with a goal of incorporating MDM functionality into the forthcoming LiMo Release 2.

“We believe that effective over-the-air management is key to the success of open OS phones,” said Tom London, CTO of InnoPath. “MDM enhances the user experience and enables advanced customer care for phones delivered by LiMo, Android and by the Symbian Foundation. We’re very proud of our hands-on involvement with this working group and honored to host them at our headquarters.”

MDM, based on OMA-DM standards, is a mature technology being deployed by Tier-1 operators globally. It creates an over-the-air connection between the operator and the mobile device, enabling more effective customer care. Benefits to the operator include reduced costs as well as increased customer satisfaction. Handset vendors benefit through better usability and brand loyalty. InnoPath, offering both a server and client solution, has played a key role in furthering OMA-DM. Its leadership role within LiMo is testament to this expertise.

The LiMo Foundation is an industry consortium dedicated to creating the first truly open, hardware-independent, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices and currently has more than 50 members, including mobility giants LG, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Samsung, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. To date, more than 20 LiMo-compliant handsets have been released into the marketplace.
