Infy,Wipro make it to Forbes top 2000

BANGALORE: Forbes has announced a new list of the world's biggest companies, as measured by a composite ranking of sales, profits, assets and market value. Of the companies on our Global 2000 list, U.S.-based companies dominate the list, with 776. Next is Japan with 331, followed by the U.K. with 132. Aggregate revenue and worldwide employees of the Global 2000: $18 trillion and 63 million, respectively.

Two Indian IT companies — Infosys and Wipro have been ranked 1,397 and 1,430 respectively. Telecom giant MTNL also has made it to the list and is ranked 1,680.

The list includes companies from 46 countries, with total revenues of $18 trillion, assets of $65 trillion and profits of $492 billion. These 2000 firms employ a total of 63 million.

Where are they based? Not surprisingly, the biggest chunk is in the U.S., which leads with 776 companies. Next is Japan with 331 entries, followed by the U.K., with 132.

At the top of the list: U.S. financial services giant Citigroup, with revenues of $93 billion, profits of $15 billion, assets of $1 trillion and market value of $211 billion.

The biggest overseas company is sixth-ranked Royal Dutch/Shell Group, which has dual headquarters in the U.K. and the Netherlands. Royal Dutch made $9 billion last year on revenues of $179 billion.
