PUNE: Infosys Technologies is ramping up operations in Pune to serve its
global clients. Located on a 25-acre campus, the firm is adding another 3.5 lakh
sq feet to accommodate a total of 3,200 employees. With an investment of Rs 140
crore, Pune is second largest development center next to the corporate
headquarters in Bangalore.

Infosys Development Centre, Pune, head Priti Rao said the second phase would
include a corporate block, two software development blocks, one dining
hall-cum-food court, a recreational center and a tennis, basketball and
volleyball courts. The campus is expected to be ready in about eight months.

According to Priti, the decision to ramp up operations was made, taking into
account the large pool of IT talent in the city. Pune handles some of the key
clients for Infosys. These include Aetna and DHL Express worldwide. Aetna is a
healthcare and related benefits provider in the US. Infosys provides consulting,
software services and support to Aetna and DHL with a variety of software
services on a wide range of technologies.

Telenet is the latest addition to the company clientele list. Telenet is a
telecommunications company in Europe that offers telephony, Internet and
multimedia services via the cable network.

Dubey also said his company's focus on Europe had nothing to do with the
slowdown. "We have been trying to diversify business out from the US,'' he
said. Currently Europe accounts for 20 per cent of its business, while US
accounts for 70 per cent of the total business. Europe is the second biggest
market after US and therefore we see revenues from non-US countries growing, he
asserted.
