BANGALORE, INDIA: India's leading software exporter Infosys Technologies today said that it would increase its activities in the government sector and is eying at finalizing a couple of deals within the sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of quarterly financial results of the company, Infosys chief executive officer S. Gopalakrishnan revealed that Infosys would soon announce the details of the projects that the company is participating in the government sector.
“BFSI, manufacturing, retail and telecoms are doing well, but we are also seeing a lot of traction in public sector segment. We are on the verge to bagging a couple of deals from the government sector, which will indicate an increased activity in this sector,” he said.
Gopalakrishnan informed that Infosys has been participating in some e-governance projects, including the one with the Income Tax Department.
The company has maintained a low key in the government bidding, but soon it will bid for many. Earlier this year, the company had mentioned about participating in the bidding process for major deals in the public sectors that would be based on transaction-based pricing model.
Sometimes back an Infosys executive had hinted that the company was bidding for projects with BSNL, Indian Railways, as also the e-commerce platform of the Ministry of Commerce.
And the latest reports about Infosys showing interest in bidding for the expected UIDAI project, seems to confirm the company's new interest in the government sector in the backdrop of the global financial turmoil.
