BANGALORE: Infosys Technologies topped the best employers in India for 2002,
in a study conducted by Hewitt Associate and Business Today. Out of the top 25
positions, IT has bagged 12 positions, making it still the sought after sector
to be employed in. Other IT companies to be featured includes HP, Satyam,
Agilent, Hughes Software, Sasken, Oracle, Compaq, Microsoft, Polaris, LG
Electronics and ST Microelectronics.
The study has analysed leading HR systems and philosophies and determines how
these effectively meet employee needs and drive business results.
"Some 204 companies across more than 15 industry groups participated in
the study and data was collected from more than 52,000 employees. The study was
open to all organisations in India that have been established for a minimum of
three years and have not less than 100 white-collar employees," according
to a media statement.
The best employers in India were distinguished based on the following
criteria, among others, including, Degree of employee satisfaction, commitment,
and morale, Depth, breadth, and prevalence of HR practices, Uniqueness of HR
practices, Effectiveness of HR practices in meeting employee needs and Alignment
of HR practices to business context.
"This is a great opportunity for companies to appraise their people
practices," said, Hewitt Associates’ managing director for Asia Pacific
region, Mick Bennett. "Best employers create an empowered environment for
people to develop and demonstrate their abilities. They also place considerable
faith in their employees."
"Most importantly, the Best Employers have highly satisfied employees
who are fully committed to their organization. In-fact HR departments' success
is measured on the degree of employee satisfaction achieved," said Hewitt’s
South Asia managing director, Ravi Virmani.
The study has shown a strong positive correlation between being a Best
Employer and improved business results. Best Employers have better financial
results across a range of operational performance measures than matched
comparator organisations. "Employees at Best Employers demonstrate
tremendous ownership about the success of the business. Best Employers also
attract the best talent available. This infusion of positive energy leads to a
more vibrant and productive workforce," adds Virmani.
