NEW DELHI: Infosys Technologies has displaced Wipro Ltd. from the position of
the second largest software exporter in India, showed rankings released by a
leading industry body.
Nasscom rankings released on Thursday showed that Infosys' exports at Rs18.53
billion ($393.82 million) in 2000/01 (April-March) were higher than Wipro's Rs
17.56 billion during the same period.
However, for the period 1999/2000, Nasscom ranked the New York Stock
Exchange-listed Wipro as India's second largest software company in terms of
total revenues. Its revenues of Rs 19.66 billion were higher than Infosys'
revenues of Rs 18.54 billion. The leader of the pack continued to be unlisted
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which led by a wide margin in both categories.
TCS posted total revenues of Rs 31.42 billion while its export revenues amounted
to Rs 28.70 billion. TCS is a division of Tata Sons, the main holding company of
the country's largest private conglomerate, the Tata group.
