MUMBAI, INDIA: The India Information Security Conference (Infosec) 2008 was inaugurated today with over 15 industry stalwarts from across the country shared their views on information security concerns in India.
The first day of the annual two-day event was attended by Indian as well as international delegates from across Industries, true to the conference objective – which is to address information security from a cross-functional, cross-industry strategic perspective.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Howard A. Schmidt, Former Special Adviser for Cyberspace Security for the White House, former Vice-President and Chief Information Security Officer for eBay and former Chief Security Officer of Microsoft Corp. who brought the issue of the criticality of security for governments, businesses and consumers especially in the context of the prevailing internet driven environment to the fore. Security, it was clearly established, will be one of the critical indices for the Indian economy as it emerges as a global knowledge hub. Mahindra Special Services Group (MSSG), Microsoft and Wipro are the principal sponsors of the two day conclave.
“Information Security is a concern for governments, for corporate houses and the public at large and it is time to share best practices between government agencies, academic institutions, and major corporations so as to make ICT systems work better for all of us.”, said Prof. Howard Schmidt, adding, “I believe that the systematic statutory processes in India are just right to foster a secure world of work and governance. It is the effective implementation that needs to be the focus now.”
