PUNE: A new digital information research center (DICR) at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) will provide walk-in access to researchers, academicians and students to the vast information resource at the laboratory. Dr R A Mashelkar, director general, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laid the foundation stone earlier this month. Once it assumes functionality, DIRC, when fully functional, will provide accurate, appropriate access to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Efforts will be made to develop tools and standards for information digitalization and archival, metadata and clearing house development besides data mining and knowledge management. The statement mentioned that initiative had been taken in key scientific informatics areas such as chemo informatics, biodiversity informatics and knowledge management.
