NEW DELHI, INDIA: As the government is still apprehensive about embarking on a cloud journey, the Information Security is however a major roadblock. The urgency to protect data is still evolving in the enterprise sector.
K Subramanian, president, Cyber Security of India and IT advisor to the CAG of India, said that some of the important imperatives to overcome challenges include business integration, value to the enterprise and security and risk evaluation.
Subramanian also said that there is a need to spread awareness on Cyber forensic and investigation amongst prosecutors and law enforcement agencies. "We should find out gaps in IT management," he added.
D.Vasudevan, Executive Director, Albion InfoTel believes that Information Security threats are no different from terror threats. "Mobile computing, wireless networking and networked computers make data vulnerable," he said.
Vasudevan feels that there are well established IS standards, though IS uses cryptology to secure data. "To counter threats, corporate leaders should be accountable and they should plan, manage and audit such issues," he said.
The data should be protected in the same spirit as we protect physical assets and business entities, feels Vasudevan. Building awareness, creating IS management system and monitoring are some of the much needed practices.
Data Security Council of India (DSCI) senior consultant (security Practices) said that a lot of initiatives have been taken by NASSCOM for data security.
There are certain issues and challenges related to cloud security within organizations that include continuous exposure to hazardous practices. And these companies, he said, are subjected to legal and compliance liability, audits and assessments, and should support surveillance requirements as per law.
In India, nearly 67 per cent companies perceive social media as a threat as compared to 57 per cent globally. Some of the responsibilities of cloud providers, Jain feels, include deployment of technologies and processes for security and privacy.
