DUBLIN, IRELAND: The .info generic top-level domain has reached over four million domain names under management, marking a significant milestone just months after crossing its fifth anniversary of real time registrations available to the public, according to Afilias, a global provider of Internet domain name registry services.
The four millionth name, leger-europe2007.info, was registered in the United Kingdom by the Asia-Pacific based registrar MelbourneIT.
Asia contributes over 200,000 registrations for the .info domain. Within this region, India maintains a strong position as the third largest country for .info registrations.
“.INFO continues to be an Internet address that individuals and businesses choose to showcase their information on the Web,” Roland LaPlante, vice president and chief marketing officer for Afilias, said. “It is gaining popularity worldwide, increasing overall sales volume and even establishing itself as an emerging domain in the aftermarket and pay-per-click (PPC) markets.”
The .info is now the 6th largest domain on the Internet, and has enabled millions of registrants to get their preferred name in a domain that enjoys broad acceptance on a global scale.
