Founded in 2001, Infinera has gone from a small startup to a global company of 1,000 employees worldwide including 225 in Bangalore. Its revenue grew 56 per cent in the most recent quarter.

Infinera builds optical systems based on photonic integrated circuits–systems that incorporate all the components necessary for optical data transmission into a single pair of chips. Transmitting data on light requires hundreds of tiny optical components to send and receive data.

In September the company announced that it had packed more than 600 optical elements onto chips that deliver 500 gigabits of data per second–enough to carry simultaneously1.2 million YouTube videos–while consuming half the power of its original chips.

The center has made significant strides in developing technologies, has made significant contributions to the award-winning Infinera DTN product family since its launch in 2004. The India team played a leading role in critical Infinera software packages including the IQ Network Operating System, Network Management Suites and Network Planning System. Infinera India has also been a key contributor to the GMPLS network intelligence in the Infinera digital network and to Infinera’s own ASIC silicon chips.
