Infinera to invest $5m in India

BANGALORE: Infinera, provider of telecommunications systems based on breakthrough photonic integration technology today announced its expansion plans in India to include software development and an advanced telecom lab.




The company plans to invest around $5 million over the next 3 years at its Bangalore R&D center which includes infrastructure and manpower resources. It plans to increase the headcount to reach 90 engineers by the year-end from the current 50 employees. The product development center in Bangalore performs a strategically critical role in overall product development.




"We are moving to a modern 12000 sq. ft facility of Prestige Solitaire, Brunton Road, which includes both software development space as well as an advanced telecom lab. In addition we are ramping up to around 90 engineers in this year to further strengthen our world-class team of professionals," said Utkarsh Rai, Managing Director, Infinera India Private Limited.

Infinera recently announced two key technology breakthroughs: the first large scale Photonic Integrated Circuits and the first Digital Optical Networking System, the Infinera DTN. Infinera India team contributed significantly towards the development of breakthrough technology.
