Indices extend gains

MUMBAI: Key share indices inched forward in early noon trades, driven by gains in heavyweights and technology stocks.

The Bombay Stock Exchange`s (BSE) 30-share Sensex, which breezed past the 4,500-mark in morning trades, was quoting at 4,523.43, up 68.35points or 1.53 per cent.



Across categories at the BSE, advances led declines 965:492.

The NSE`s 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was quoting at 1,442.10, up 21.31 points or 1.5 per cent.



Technical analysts said that the Sensex is likely to next find resistance at 4,545-levels.



FMCG bigwig Hindustan Lever gained 3.18 per cent to Rs 190.05, while Reliance Industries rose 1.46 per cent to Rs 441 at the BSE.

Technology stocks continued to rule higher, despite the US government restricting the H-1B visas to less that 65,000. Frontline software exporters Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computers and HCL Technologies were trading higher at the BSE. The BSE IT Index was quoting at 1,544.13, up 23.64 points or 1.55 per cent.

Shares of cement companies rose ahead of the announcement of their monthly production figures today.



Banking stocks also gained ground at the exchanges, as the BSE BANKEX rose 39.48 points or 1.85 per cent to 2,170.97.
