India's 9/11: US Internet Co comes under scanner

MUMBAI, INDIA: Mumbai Police's latest investigation in the recent terror case reveals that an US based internet company's services were used by the attackers during the 26/11 attacks, which claimed over 180 people's life and leaving hundreds injured.

According to Mumbai Police's crime branch, Call Phoenix, the American internet service provider (ISP) had provided the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to terrorists that allowed their communication via internet with chiefs during the three-day siege.

Further the investigation revealed that the ISP has confirmed that the terrorists had used its VoIP service to make calls to Pakistan.

Also, the New-Jersey based company was paid about $300 by some on Zarar Shah via an international money transfer firm.

According to Rakesh Maria, Crime Branch's chief the investigation department is in talks with the US Internet company for tracking the details of users that used the VoIP service.

Ever since the Mumbai terror strike there were reports that the terrorists had used sophisticated communication systems like Global Position System (GPS), satellite phones to implement the attack.

Recently a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court against Google Earth, saying that the maps in it are helping terrorists.
