India's largest Open Source conf, announced

BANGALORE: Linux Bangalore 2004, India's largest annual Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) event, has been announced for December 1-3, 2004, and will feature speakers from Indian industry, as well as from the USA, Europe and Australia, including Brian Behlendorf, Harald Welte, Wietse Venema, Michael Meeks, Scott Wheeler, Andrew Cowie, Andi Kleen, Werner Almesberger and Deepak Saxena.






According to LB 2004 Conference Chair Atul Chitnis, "Linux Bangalore 2004 is the fourth in the series of these highly successful conventions, and is now rated among the top technical events in India and Asia. Last year more than 2000 delegates participated, while this year, it is expected that close to 3000 will attend the event."





The conference topics cover a diverse spectrum of FOSS related technologies that include Technical Tracks (Kernel Programming, Desktop Applications, Web-based Applications, Embedded Development and Enterprise Applications), Community Tracks covering FOSS Projects and FOSS User Groups, and Business Tracks covering The Business of FOSS. About 80 talks are scheduled for the event this year.





The event also features an Expo, showcasing the latest FOSS trends and products. These include the KDE Desktop Project, the IndLinux Project and other FOSS projects, as well as a number of leading IT vendors that offer products and services that run on FOSS platforms such as Linux, BSD, etc.





The event is funded by sponsorships from the industry. This year's sponsors are global computing giant HP (Platinum Sponsor), who is sponsoring the event for the fourth time in succession, India's IT superstar Infosys Technologies (Gold Sponsor) and the people behind the Simputer - Encore Software (Silver Sponsor).
