BANGALORE: India's software exports in the first six months of 2000-01 (April-March) were at Rs 131 billion ($2.86 billion) compared with Rs 80.60 billion in the same period a year earlier, an industry official said on Wednesday.

"Which means we have already done $2.86 billion in the half-year period compared to $4 billion for the full year last year," said National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) president Dewang Mehta at a technology conference.

In July, Nasscom had forecast that export revenues would jump 58 per cent in dollar terms to $6.3 billion in 2000-01 from $4.0 billion in the previous year, a 51 per cent rise over the $2.65 billion clocked in 1998-99.

Combined export and domestic revenues of the industry, which grew 53 per cent to Rs 243.5 billion from Rs 158.90 billion in the earlier year, were expected to surge 62 per cent to Rs 395 billion in the current year, it had said.

The industry organization had said exports of e-commerce solutions were expected to rise to $1.4 billion in the current year from $500 million last year.
