BANGALORE, INDIA: Indian audiences are warming up to IPS (In Plane Switching) technology, according to a recent AC Nielsen survey.

The survey conducted in five metros - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore - has revealed that IPS panel technology is emerging as a favorite among people in the age group of 25-39, said a press release.

It also revealed that awareness of the panels has increased from 9.0 per cent in March 2009 to 16.6 per cent in December 2009.

Developed in 1996, IPS was initially meant to improve the poor viewing angle and the poor color reproduction of twisted nematic (TN) panels at that time.

Its name comes from the main difference from the TN display, with the crystal molecules moving parallel to the panel plane instead of moving perpendicularly.

This change reduces the amount of light scattering in the matrix, which gives IPS its characteristic wide-viewing angles and good color reproduction, said the release.

In a VA panel the liquid crystal molecules are compressed on knocking, become distorted and leak the light. The IPS panel is hard. Its molecular arrangement does change even on being knocked. When the IPS panel is pressed down, the original colours remain, with some change of brightness.

The viewing angle of IPS panel is thus much better, mainly for it can ensure the proportion of the 3 colours within a large visible range.

With cricket mania catching on in India like never before, LG LED LCDs enhances the television viewing experience even further. With the advantages that the technology offers, fast moving pictures are best seen on IPS LCD TVs.

IPS technology, one of the most leading LCD technologies in the world, is mainly owned by LG Display company.
