"Consumers accounted for 47 percent of total PC sales in the first quarter of 2014," said Vishal Tripathi, principal research analyst at Gartner.

"In the absence of any government orders this quarter, the Indian PC market performed dismally, re-emphasizing the fact that sentiments were not very positive in the first quarter of 2014, and enterprises are deferring their purchases. However, with new government leadership, there is a positive sentiment both among and enterprises and consumers, and we expect markets to bounce back in the next two quarters."

White boxes (including parallel imports), which accounted for 39 percent of the overall desktop market, declined 7 percent in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter, mobile PCs declined 32 percent year-on-year due to a lack of government sales.
