Indian Institute of IT to come up in Gurgaon

NEW DELHI: The Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (Hartron),

the nodal agency implementing IT activities in the state, is setting up an

Indian Institute of Information Technology in Gurgaon. The institute will be a

center of excellence for education, training and applied research in the area of

IT, allied subjects and its applications. The corporation has signed an MoU with

Edutech Informatics India Ltd for setting up the institute. Apart from

Informatics, Hartron will tie up with four other partners, not necessarily in

the field of IT education, for the project. These partners have not been

identified as yet.

Informatics will be an integral part of the institute and will provide

facilities and offer training infrastructure for the formal under-graduate and

post-graduate courses in IT, to be offered by the institute. The company will

also set up an Informatics Center of Excellence.

The state has already agreed to contribute to the project’s corpus fund and

provide the land and building. All the other partners are expected to pump in Rs

2 crore in the first round of investments.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology will offer certificate,

diploma and degree courses and skill-based courses of varying duration. It will

also develop non-classroom based learning solutions, including technology- and

Web-based learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Industry and IT Commissioner of the Government of

Haryana, PK Chaudhury, said, "We expect the Indian Institute of Information

Technology, Haryana, to be the breeding ground for some of the best brains on

the Indian IT scene. It will provide an environment for research that will

enhance the penetration of IT and its usage in our daily lives."
