NEW DELHI: India on Friday said it had withdrawn a statement saying the
Indian arm of Microsoft Corp was facing action by the country's Monopolies and
Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC).
"The handout titled ‘Microsoft Corporation (India) faces charges of
Monopolistic and Restrictive Trade Practices’ issued earlier today is hereby
withdrawn and cancelled," the Press Information Bureau said in a statement.
Earlier, Microsoft Corp's Indian arm, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd.
denied the charges.
A company statement quoted the MRTPC’s director general for investigation
and registration as saying he had made no recommendation to initiate any enquiry
against Microsoft India.
Microsoft’s statement came after the government said the MRTPC’s director
general of investigation and registration had recommended action against it over
restrictive trade practices.
