India has slipped to 92nd rank from the last year's 89th position. The report ranks 118 countries according to their ability to grow, attract and retain talent.

While India stood on a relatively solid pool of global knowledge skills compared with other emerging markets, the country is not able to retain and attract talent, said the report. In terms of retaining and attracting talent, India stands at 104th and 114th positions respectively.

This is not likely to improve until India boosts performance in its regulatory (94th) and market (99th) landscapes, said the report.

India is facing challenge to attract talent from abroad due to an increasing emigration rates of high-skilled people.

City-wise, the top 10 global cities in terms of talent competitiveness are Zurich, Helsinki, San Francisco, Gothenburg, Madrid, Paris, Los Angeles, Eindhoven and Dublin. Mumbai is the only Indian city that has made it to the list of 46 cities(44th position).

The report also explores the effects of technological change on talent competitiveness, arguing that while jobs at all levels continue to be replaced by machines, technology is also creating new opportunities.
