India ready to share ICT expertise with Egypt

NEW DELHI: Dr Shakeel Ahmad, minister of State for Communications & Information Technology has said that India is ready to share its expertise with Egypt in the field of e-governance, Information Security, Capacity building, IT Policy and IT industry promotion, Telecom Sector ,e-posts and setting up of IT parks. Dr Ahmad said this while holding talks with the visiting delegation led by Dr Tarek Kamel, minister of Communications and IT, Egypt.

In his welcome address Dr Ahmad expressed hope that companies of both the countries can work together for projects in the fields of e-governance, IT education, IT Park and cyber security for protection of critical information infrastructure. He suggested the setting up industry-to-industry cooperation through both countries’ industry associations like Nasscom or ESC with Egyptian counterparts.

He further stated that the B2B contacts between Egypt and Indian IT enterprises could be encouraged by organising conventions, seminars and visit of business delegation.

Highlighting the milestones achieved in the Telecom and IT sectors, Dr Ahmad said that in view of opportunities that exist in Egypt, Telephone Consultants of India Limited (TCIL) can explore the possibilities for business opportunities and take up projects and consultancy work in Egypt in the field of rural communications.

An MoU between both countries for bilateral cooperation in the ICT sector would be signed on Tuesday in Chennai by minister of Communications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran, reflecting the desire of the two countries to work together, Dr Ahmad added.

In his address, the Egyptian Minister, Dr Kamel said that in view of historical and cultural relations existing between both the countries, India and Egypt should work together for developing G2G and B2B relationships in their ICT sectors.

During the discussions, Dr Kamel gave a brief on the economic reforms agenda launched by Egyptian Government since July2004.

He further said that both countries can work together in utilizing ICT in education and health sectors.

The visting Egyptian Minister also shown keen interest in knowing the functioning of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and Universal Service Obligation Fund in providing the telecom services for rural areas.
