India Post goes hi-tech, gets 4,700 crore grants

NEW DELHI, INDIA: While commissioning the Automatic Mail Processing Centre in Kolkata, Minister of State for Communication & Information Technology Killi Kruparani said that all post offices across the country will have online banking facilities.

The facility would be offered from next year in the month of May.

Government has sanctioned Rs 4,700 crore for the computerisation and modernisation of India Post, as said by the Minister.

The minister further added that, every Post Office in urban and rural areas will provide on-line-services to the citizens from next year.

The Postal Department is in plans to install 1,000 ATMs in the main post offices for facilitating the purpose.
