India leads the way in iPhone sales growth

Apple CEO Timothy Cook said the company has clocked 93 percent growth in sale of iPhones in India and 87 percent increase in China in the third quarter ended June 27, 2015

MUMBAI, INDIA: Apple has had a record run for its iPhone sales in India. None other than Timothy Cook, CEO, Apple, has acknowledged that the company clocked 93 percent growth in sales of iPhones in India, followed by 87 percent in China in Q32015.

“We are up over 85 percent in Greater China and in India, and In India we grew at 93 percent and this is on top of the Greater China numbers that grew 87 percent during the quarter against a market of 5 percent,” said Cook.

iPhone sales increased more than 45 percent in several countries including Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Turkey. Sales more than doubled in Germany, Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Western Europe grew 30 percent. Japan grew over five times market. Apple doubled in Korea.

In Americas, Apple sales grew 15 percent, 19 percent in Europe, 112 percent in Greater China and 26 percent in Rest of Asia Pacific. The company posted revenue growth of 112 percent to over $13 billion and iPhone unit growth of 87 percent in Greater China. Overall, emerging markets grew 79 percent to $18 billion and represented 35 percent of total company revenue.

Apple sold 47.5 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 35 percent growth, while its iPad sales fell to 10.9 million from 13.3 million in the year-ago quarter.

A heady mix of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus led to an iPhone ASP of $660, an increase of $99 year over year, despite the significant negative foreign exchange impact. Plus, the company reduced iPhone channel inventory by about 600,000 units during the quarter.

Apple clocked 32.52 percent increase in sales to $49.6 billion, while net income rose 37.8 percent to $ 10.67 billion.

The growth was fueled by record third quarter sales of iPhone and Mac, all-time record revenue from services and the successful launch of Apple Watch.
