HYDERABAD: Speaking on the occasion of the launch of 'Geospatial Today',

a GIS focussed magazine, B Ramlinga Raju, MD, Satyam Computer Services said that

India has all the potential to beat the growing Chinese threat in the software

services market. "I know that China is doing very well in the manufacturing

world, but as far as services are concerned India has a leading edge over them

and I am quite sure that India can do it on the services front. This is the

reason why we are doing very well on the GIS front despite the situation in the

US," he added.

The potential for the Indian market can be seen by the world heavyweights

such as Intel and Microsoft having their R&D centers based over here.

"I see an enormous opportunity in the country for business outsourcing as

well as the R&D activity being increased by some of the world leaders in

order to establish though leadership in the IT space," he explained. The

journal priced at Rs 250 for the Indian segment and is available at $ 7 outside

the country.

Earlier he unveiled the first copy of Geospatial Today, a magazine

promoted by Hyderabad based Spatial networks Pvt Ltd. The journal is completely

devoted to Geospatial technologies catering to the Asian, African and Oceanic

markets.

The journal will carry articles, case studies, product reviews, book reviews

and event reviews, company profiles, institution profiles and more information

on the GIS front. "Geospatial technologies are growing at 8 to 10 per cent

annually. This kind of steady growth is going to generate a huge market in the

future. Applications of Geospatial technologies are going to be used in almost

all the fields, be it power, water, highways, telecommunication or managing

natural resources," said Spatial Networks MD, P Chandrasekhar Reddy.
