The government is also advocating the usage of vernacular languages and has asked the mobile device manufacturers to preload Indian forms. It’s also planning to integrate UPA’s flagship UID project into m-services delivery mechanism.

Speaking to CIOL, Shankar Aggarwal, additional secretary of the Department of IT (DIT), said that they are optimistic about mobile service delivery gateway. ”The ecosystem is ready and we will be introducing it ahead of March 2012 schedule,” Aggarwal said.

DIT has conducted two rounds of public consultations on the proposed framework. It has created two groups, each one for north and south India, and is working closely with service providers and device vendors to incorporate necessary format for the delivery of mobile-driven services.

The government is also working on application development and is expecting to introduce app store early next year. The digitization of public data and interoperability between various ministries and departments, is a gigantic task for the DIT for the delivery of public services through mobile devices.

Earlier, the states of Andhra Pradesh and Goa have introduced some services over the mobile devices. Gauging the seriousness of the Centre on smart governance, plans are afoot in other states too.
