India-Europe IT Summit a grand success: Nasscom

NEW DELHI: National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the apex industry association of IT Software and Service companies, has announced that the India-Europe IT Summit, held in association with the Financial Times in London, closed with unprecedented success. Reflecting the success of the summit, over 200 visitors including 100 business delegates from Europe attended the summit. The one-day summit focused on highlighting India's outsourcing potential and was aimed at facilitating trade between India and Europe in the ICT sector.

Sir Rob Young, British High Commissioner to India and Nareshwar Dayal, High Commissioner for India to UK, inaugurated the summit. Both the high commissioners emphasized on the need to increase the IT co-operation between India and UK specifically, and with Europe in general.

Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology, was also present at the summit and highlighted the policy initiatives being taken by the Government of India to further boost the Indian IT Industry. Sir David Wright KCMG LVO, Group Chief Executive, British Trade International focussed on Europe's Future Need For IT Solutions.

Commenting on the response to the India - Europe IT summit, Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom said, "The summit was a grand success with the business visitors at the summit recognizing India's potential in the area of cost effective and high quality IT outsourcing. He further added, "The summit helped us in building a brand equity amongst the potential customer base in Europe and we plan to make it an institutionalized event which will be held every year in Europe, possibly in different cities of Europe."

A high-powered delegation of over 50 Indian Software and Service companies took part in the summit.



The theme for the India-Europe IT Summit was 'Outsourcing to India: Setting a course for value' aimed at highlighting the cost effective and high quality IT outsourcing capability of India. Some of the focus areas discussed at the summit included Europe's need for IT solutions, India's advantage in terms of infrastructure and skilled human resource, How can companies leverage from alternative business models, issues and challenges faced by the two countries and Europe's experiences on working with Indian businesses.

At the summit, speakers from Ford, BT, HSBC, London Stock Exchange, Xansa India highlighted the advantages of working with Indian software and service companies.
