The DLP market is expanding rapidly, but unfortunately, the awareness level in Asia Pacific region is relatively low. According to the Kroll's global fraud report released last year, the electronic and information theft accounted to 27.3 per cent of the total fraud losses in 2010.

Speaking to CIOL, Rajesh Garg, vice president and head — Information Systems Support at Nucleus Software, said that as information security is turning up as a major business concern, corporate needs to adopt the best in class security solutions to counter this problem.

Inspite of the increasing growth, DLP market remains highly fragmented across the APAC region. According to a recent report by Frost & Sullivan, ANZ is the most advanced market in APAC, owing to a mature and active IT approach of enterprises followed by Japan where DLP is still niche.

The Indian market is witnessing few players in this segment, dominated by Symantec at 16 per cent of market share, and Websense catering to 15 per cent of the market, followed by RSA and McAfee with 9 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

“The new data regulatory compliance, convergence between IT and businesses and customers’ holistic approach to DLP have enabled India to become one of the fastest growing countries in APAC with respect to DLP,” Garg said.

The report also indicates that DLP demand in APAC is expected to grow further in long term, but sees slower growth rates in short term for 2011-2013 due to lack of clear understanding among customers. Other fast growing DLP markets in the region include South Korea and China.

Nucleus Software is one of the early adopters of an advanced DLP solution in the Indian IT industry and is also among the few to have successfully implemented such a solution.
