BANGALORE, INDIA: Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced to revamp its Wireless Planning Coordination wing to improve the spectrum management.

According to the media reports, the re-vamping process includes the proposal of Spectrum Act, under which an independent regulator for spectrum would be introduced, taking it away from the operators, who are unable to manage it efficiently.

This new body would enable better management and utilization of spectrum for service providers, it added. DoT has noted that with the increasing demand for spectrum there is a need of stronger body than the current WPC wing.
