.IN domain tagged at Rs 800 a year

NEW DELHI: Net4India Ltd, the recently appointed registrar for .IN domain names, is offering the in-country domain names at an annual fee of Rs 800 per name, wherein Rs 50 from each registration will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund. To begin with, the applicants will have to book the .IN domain name for five years. In addition, they can buy more in-country domain names such as CO.IN, FIRM.IN, GEN.IN, NET.IN, ORG and IND at Rs 400 each.






The company has been authorized to sell the in-country domain names from January 1, 2005. The applicants can apply for .IN domain name online through company's website. Owners of registered Indian trademarks or service marks who wish to protect their marks will be given the opportunity to apply for .IN domain name before the general public, as per the regulations.

The interested parties can apply for the .IN domain name in the sunrise period starting from January 1- January 21, 2005. The applicants will be required to apply through an accredited registrar.






CEO of Net4India Jasjit Sawhney said, "We feel that at least 50,000 domain names should get registered starting from January 1, 2005 till January 21, 2005. The sunrise period of 21 days gives the trademark holders a golden opportunity to get domain names before the offer is open to the general public."





"We have a strong presence in 11 major cities which enables the companies to directly apply for registration thereby simplifying the process of application", he added.
