Impetus Tech to set up R&D center in India

Impetus technologies, outsourced software R&D and service provider to software technology enabled companies, is planning to set up its seventh R&D facility in India. Impetus offers product design, development, deployment and maintenance services, and software product development life cycle.

Praveen Kankariya, founder and CEO, Impetus Technologies spoke at length to Bhaskar Hazarika from CyberMedia News on the future of the outsourcing industry in India. During the interaction, he shared the company’s plans to invest $10 million in its R&D, largely in India.

CMN: How do you see the future of the software outsourcing in India?

Praveen Kankariya: There is a lot of potential for the outsourcing sector in India. India is witnessing huge growth in this sector. There is lot of opportunities for Internet generating content here. Currently we are witnessing the Web 2.0 gaining pace here. Lot of websites are getting facelift from the earlier versions to Web 2.0 now, mainly the news portals and other media sites. There is a tremendous room for growth in Internet generating content. Blogging is another area, which is yet to take off in India.

CMN: What are your plans for India in terms of investments in R&D centers?

PK: Impetus is headquartered in the Silicon Valley, and today we have offices in various cities in the USA and in India. Since inception, the driving force behind the company’s success is our singular focus on product design and development, and technology innovation for optimal utilization.

Currently we have six R&D centers in India focusing on product development, design and software product development life cycle. Our R&D centers two in Noida, three in Indore and one in Hyderabad. We are exploration to set up another center, which is likely to be set up in the next six months time. However, we are exploring the location to set up the center.

We invest around four to five per cent of our revenues in R&D. We are planning to invest $10 million in 2008 in our R&D, of which largely would be invested in India.

CMN: What is your current headcount in the six centers India? Do you have any plans to increase the headcount?

PK: Our current headcount in the R&D centers in India is more 1000 engineers. We have plans to almost double the headcount in these centers by next year. After setting up of our next center we would be hiring more people. However, the headcount in the existing center would also be increased.

CMN: Can you share your revenue figures and the growth? Are you planning to set up centers in other countries in Asia-Pacific region?

Our growth figures are encouraging, as we have recorded growth at 75 per cent in 2006. We are expecting a positive growth this year as well. Regarding the revenue figures we do not disclose revenue figures.

We are looking at other countries to set up centers. We are evaluating other countries across the world in terms of setting up facilities, but yet to finalise on it.
