IIT Kanpur has organised this Robotics course while keeping in mind the rapidly advancing process of inclusion of robots. From Industry to the Social Arena, the functional requirement of the robots and corresponding human expectations have increased tremendously. However, to fully comprehend the complexities of such robot design, one needs to possess an over-all idea of the field.

The objective of this robotics course is to introduce students, researchers to this new field of robotics with the help of illustrative models, facts and relevant theories. The course has been designed by carefully maintaining a balance between biology, engineering and control system design so that it can attract a broad group of people interested in the interdisciplinary field.

Who can enrol in the course?

This is a Postgraduate Mechanical Engineering level course. But anyone can enrol in the course. The only prerequisite is you should know school level science. You also should have the desire to expand the horizon of your knowledge.

Timeline of the course

This Elective course has a duration of 4 weeks. It will start from 20 Jul 2020 and end on 14 Aug 2020. If you want the certificate, you have to give a proctored exam on 27 Sep 2020. The last date to enrol is 27 Jul 2020.

Who will teach this robotics course?

Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya will lead the course. He is a Professor at the Dept of Mechanical Engineering. Also, he heads the Cognitive Science programme at IIT Kanpur. His research interest primarily lies in vibration control, structural health monitoring, energy harvesting system, intelligent system design and Child-Reconfigurable Robot Interaction. Further, he is the coordinator of Space Technology Cell, IIT Kanpur and head of the SMSS (Smart Materials, Structures and Systems) Laboratory.

What will the course teach?

This is a 4-week long course. In Week One, you will learn about Neural Signaling & Sensory System. The module is introductory where you will learn about the anatomy of the human brain, robots and Human-Robot Interactions. Next in Week Two, you will learn the theory of Artificial Intelligence. Week Three is full of teaching the Intelligent System Design and Cognition Development, and the brain and body Dynamics. Finally, Week Four will comprise of the Control of Intelligent Systems, i.e the AI-based Approach.

How to obtain a certificate from IIT Kanpur?

The course is free to enrol and learn. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the optional proctored exam. The fee for this exam is ₹ 1000. Also, the successful completion of the exam does not guarantee a certificate. To get a certificate, you need to get 25% from the assignments and 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100.

Final score = Average assignment score (>10/25) + Exam score (>30/75). If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score > 40/100.

This printable certificate will carry the stamp from both NPTEL and IIT.
