IIT Guwahati PhD December 2020: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has begun the process of selecting candidates for PhD programme for the 2020 session. Further, the institute has started accepting applications online from October 20. The last date to apply is November 10.

Of the 215 PhD seats up for grabs, 66 are available for general category students. The rest are for reserved categories, including 29 for economically weaker sections (EWS). Those who want to apply for more than one department/centre, then they can apply with the same registration.

Eligibility Criteria

For receiving assistantship in PhD programmes in All Disciplines, a candidate must have a minimum qualifying Post-Graduate Degree in Basic Sciences OR Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following:

- Scholars through National Eligibility Tests – UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE

- The selection process through National level examinations conducted by MHRD and its Agencies and Institutions such as UGC/IIT/IISc./IISER/IIIT, etc.

Fees

The details of the application (online/ offline-paper form) & Processing Fee are as follows:

• Female Candidates: Rs.150
• Transgender Candidates: Rs.150
• SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Rs.150
• Other Candidates: Rs.300

Departments and how to apply?

You need to choose (at least three) Areas of Research according to your interest in your PhD thesis work from the table and mention it in the online application form. Also, you need to write a one-page write up on proposed research work (in any one of your chosen areas of interests from the available areas of research given below) for your PhD thesis and upload it in PDF format.

Then, in the online application form, you have to provide Names (and Email Addresses) of two referees who are familiar with your academic credentials and character. They should help IIT Guwahati with an assessment of your academic potential for PhD. If you are called for the selection process, then IIT Guwahati will contact your referees over email to provide the letter of reference detailing the assessment of your academic potential for PhD
