IE top browser for online shopping ahead of app D-day

SAN FRANCISCO, USA: New research shows that Internet Explorer is the most popular browser for online shopping this holiday season.

Internal data from SOASTA, the leader in cloud and mobile testing, shows that 34 percent of site visits over Thanksgiving weekend originated from different versions of IE, followed by Chrome (29 percent), and Firefox (15 percent).

Surprisingly, mobile traffic from Thanksgiving weekend - Black Friday through Sunday - actually beat out that of Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday (62.5 percent higher).

These new holiday shopping insights come ahead of the busiest app downloading day of the year, Christmas.

According to a Harris survey commissioned by SOASTA, 30 percent of Americans plan to download an app on December 25 this year. Of those 30 percent, the top apps were:

- Gaming (49 percent)

- Music (43 percent)

- Weather (27 percent)

- Shopping (25 percent)

- Social media (24 percent).
