HYDERABAD: As a premier education service provider for the Indian Banking and Financial Sector, Institute for Development and Research in Banking technology (IDRBT) is all set to launch a web-based post graduate program in Banking Technology Management (PGPBTM).

"The program is the first-of-its-kind in the country and assures quality education, which is essential for tackling the emerging challenges in the banking industry. We are going to launch this initiative in the month of July 2003," said, Dr VP Gulati, Director at IDRBT.

As of now IDRBT is in the process of identifying some Staff Training Colleges of Banks and Financial Institutions, which would be the Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) for the program. "This will ensure smooth reach of this program to the different parts of the country. We are going to leverage on the existing infrastructure that is there already, so it will help our initiative," he informed.

PGPBTM is going to be a two-year program, specifically designed for the employees of Banks and Financial Institutions. The curriculum has already been designed by IDRBT and covers the entire spectrum of banking technology.

Being web-based, the program would offer a lot of flexibility in terms of time, distance, cost, pace of learning etc. and provide a new learning experience to both the teacher and the students in a virtual classroom scenario. There will be no entrance examination for the inaugural batch. Candidates would be selected by IDRBT, and they will be informed by e-mail. The applicant should have a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or its equivalent degree from a foreign university.

The course fee is Rs 20,000; applicants must be full-time employees of any bank (public sector, private sector or foreign) or should have been working with a financial institution located in India for not less than one year, as on the date of application.
