HYDERABAD: Idea Cellular Ltd., a cellular service provider in the state of AP, has launched ‘Southern Roaming’ to make roaming more economical for its post-paid subscribers who frequent the Southern States of India. Through southern roaming, it would offer a customized roaming solution through special arrangement with cellular operators in the southern states, which include Spice in Karnataka, RPG in Chennai and BPL in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. This service is available to Idea subscribers to Roam in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka besides Andhra Pradesh.

Subscribers with Southern roaming could stay connected in all the southern states of India while accessing the local access codes of the respective southern roaming partners and their local home network, without having to subscribe for STD facility, thus making roaming more economical.

The service is cost effective for those subscribers who may not require national roaming and need to stay connected only while travelling in the South. This service is activated at a refundable deposit of Rs 1,000 and a monthly rental of Rs 50. The airtime rates are same as that of national roaming with PSTN rates and tax as applicable.

Unlike national roaming, southern roaming does not require an Idea cell phone user to subscribe to STD facility, which is again for an additional deposit. This product is targeted at specific segments of subscribers who travel frequently on the Southern belt.
