Idea Cellular launches free roaming service

BANGALORE, INDIA: Idea Cellular, the 3rd largest mobile operator, today launched a new offer enabling users to enjoy free Roaming services while travelling to any part of the country.

The announcement follows a similar Free roaming service announced by Bharti Airtel on Monday.

Idea has launched two new vouchers for its over 123 million subscribers, which offer roaming calling rates at par with Home calling rates, without any additional roaming charges.

Idea's new value vouchers priced between Rs. 230-240*, and another priced between Rs. 35-40* offer the same rates for Local, STD, ISD calling, and SMS, as the user pays for using these services while in the home circle. Further, Idea has reduced incoming roaming charges to 75 paise/minute for users who avail Rs. 35-40 voucher, whereas incoming is absolutely free for those who avail Rs. 230-240 voucher.

Idea users who recharge with the new vouchers will be able to enjoy the roaming benefits for 6 months from the date of recharge.

Speaking about the initiative, Sashi Shankar, chief marketing officer, Idea Cellular said, "Indians are travelling across the country like never before, for work or leisure. Idea's pan-India network will now allow over 123 million Idea users to roam freely across the country, without worrying about additional roaming charges."

The new special roaming vouchers will be available starting July 1st, 2013, across all 22 circles.
