NEW DELHI: ICICI has launched its online initiative, billjunction.com to make
life easier for citizens in Delhi. The service which is already available to the
people of Mumbai, uses RBI’s Electronic Clearing Service (ECS) mechanism to
enable bill payment, allowing customers of all ECS member banks to avail this
facility. The value proposition that the site brings to its users is that it
does not require its customers to open a bank account in any specific bank to
avail this online facility. The application is powered by PayAway, a software
from Infosys Technologies.
Billjunction has already tied up with major utility service providers in
Delhi including MTNL, AirTel, Essar, Escotel, ICICI Bank Credit Cards, VSNL,
Satyam and RoltaNet. The site also plans to tie up with many other billers soon.
It has already tied up with service providers, or payees, who are unable to send
bills electronically. Customers can avail of Billjunction’s service to make
payments to the payees as and when they receive the paper bills.
The site would typically work in a three-step process: bill presentation,
bill payment and bill archiving. The billers with whom the site has tied up will
send the bills electronically to customers with an e-mail notification each time
a new bill arrives. Customers can review the bills online and schedule payments
and Billjunction will pay as per the instruction of the customer and send an
e-mail confirmation. The customer’s bill details are then filed online so that
they can be readily accessed later.
