According to the technology research and advisory firm, organisations submitted their applications for the Gartner BI Excellence Award based on a combination of business value, technical implementation and best practices as defined by the Gartner Business Intelligence and Performance Management Framework. Gartner’s BI research analysts evaluated the applicants and selected the three finalists, who will present their case studies at the BI Summit. Attendees will then vote to select the award winner.

The inaugural Asia Pacific awards recieved submissions from 20 organisations in six countries across the region, representing industry sectors including financial services, government, education, healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications, utilities and retail, states the press release.

Ian Bertram, Gartner managing vice president and chair of the 2009 Gartner BI Summit, said the quality of the responses received was outstanding and many of the submissions demonstrated global best practices.

“Making better decisions and managing performance is even more critical in the current business climate. BI consistently appears as a top technology priority in Gartner surveys, for good reason. It remains high on the radar of CIOs because it turns business information into an asset that can take business performance to new levels, ” said Bertram.

The award will be presented at the company's Business Intelligence and Information Management Summit next month at Sydney.
