IC demand spurs growth in WPG revenues

TAIPEI, TAIWAN: The emerging markets, such as India, South Eastern Asia, Middle East, Africa and Russia, has been growing rapidly, thereby helping Taiwan based IC distributors scale new heights in their business arena. Significant among them is the story of IC distributor WPG Holdings, which has shown an unprecedented rise in its operations.

WPG has reported record monthly consolidated revenues of NT$ 18.88 billion (US$576 million) in July, which is a rise of 38 per cent, on a year-on-year basis. WPG's accumulated revenues from January to July had risen 24 per cent to NT$103.3 billion.

A Digitimes news report said that, in addition to contribution from business consolidation, demand from India, South Eastern Asia, Middle East, Africa and Russia, is growing rapidly, and this has added to the growth in a big way in terms of revenues.

Elaborating, the company has said that sales from the China region accounted for 68 per cent of WPG's revenues in July. The popularity of iPhone is also driving WPG's component shipments, it has been pointed out.

Other players in the IC space are also seeing growth in a big way. While IC distributor WT Microelectronics posted record sales of NT$4.12 billion for July, which is 5 per cent on year, Yosun Industrial and Zenitron posted consolidated revenues for July, that are among the highest monthly levels of 2009 at NT$10.54 billion and NT$1.91 billion, respectively.
