BANGALORE: IBM's latest DB2 version 8 helps customers solve a critical business problem, integrating information across the enterprise and minimizing the tasks and costs associated with maintaining their data management infrastructure. According to industry experts, the increased complexity and volume of data has increased the burden of database administrators at a time when the industry is facing a shortage of IT skills.

"Managing data should be simple and easy. Database, just like any other middleware from IBM, is meant to let businesses do the things they care about, such as conducting business transactions online securely. But it isn't an easy task since companies have different data stores residing in various computer systems, in different locations and of multiple data types, " said, IBM India Country Executive Software Group and Developer Relations Frank Luksic.

"Today, we have the software for businesses to significantly reduce costs and cope with the complexity."

"The features of the DB2 version 8 include three world's firsts in a database. The first being a advanced autonomic computing capabilities, including self-managing and self-tuning features, enabling customers to reduce the time and costs associated with managing their database system.

The second is that it is the only database to support Federated Web Services, providing the broadest access to information across the enterprise, including information provided through Web Services.

Lastly it also features breakthrough performance features, enabling customers to increase productivity and gain faster business insight into information," informed the release.
