NEW YORK: International Business Machines Corp. cut about 250 jobs within its U.S. services division as part of its efforts to match its work force to the skills it needs, a company spokesman confirmed on Thursday.
That is about one-tenth of 1 percent of the 180,000 employees in the Armonk, New York company's services division. IBM had about 319,000 total employees at the end of 2003.
The cuts came just a few days after the company said that it had eliminated 300 jobs in its computer systems group. It said that it was combining that systems group with its technology division.
The company announced the cuts to affected employees on Wednesday. They have 30 days to look for another position within the company.
