ARMONK: International Business Machines Corp. on Monday said it would allow
customers to tap into its mainframe computers to borrow capacity rather than
rely on a physical database or application server.
The company said the new on-demand system, to be called Linux Virtual
Services, will connect customers to "virtual servers" stored on IBM
mainframes. Customers will be changed based on how much computing power and
capacity they need.
IBM said the virtual servers would be more reliable and cost efficient for
customers.
