BANGALORE: Quantum Corporation has announced an agreement with IBM to offer the Quantum "SuperLoader" in its IBM eserver xSeries product line. This was announced by a media release from Quantum. The IBM 2U SDLT autoloader is a modular, scalable tape autoloader with a high cartridge capacity in a 2U rack-mount form factor. This storage solution is ideally suited for departmental, workgroup and remote office environments, while providing enterprise-class features, investment protection, reliability and capacity to IBM customers at a competitive price.

Among the lowest cost per GB automation products on the market, the IBM 2U SDLT Autoloader features a single SDLT 220 drive and 16 plus one cartridges with two removable magazines for 3.5 TB of capacity and a backup/restore rate of 22 MB/sec. (with 2:1 compression). The plus one capability allows an additional cartridge to be added to a fully populated system. IBM plans to build on Quantum SuperLoaders modularity by enabling additional drive technologies in the future.

For IT managers in smaller organizations, the IBM 2U SDLT Autoloader is designed to allow them to accomplish more of their data management tasks in less time, lowering the total cost of ownership compared to using stand-alone tape drives.

For managers in large organizations with distributed servers, the IBM 2U SLDT Autoloader is designed to integrate seamlessly with their existing infrastructure at the remote office and workgroup levels, allowing them to implement automated, remotely-configured and centrally managed data protection throughout the enterprise.

The IBM 2U SDLT Autoloader’s modular design allows for ease of maintenance and management with customer-replaceable components to minimize system downtime. An Ethernet port provides direct access to the integrated Web-based management tools allowing administrators to configure, control, monitor, diagnose, maintain and update the system using a standard Web browser. Other features include mail slot access to cartridges without system interruption, intuitive front panel display, multi-level security features, integrated drive and loader control for simplified installation and cabling, multi-language capability, and standard bar code reader. The IBM 2U SDLT Autoloader is available immediately.
