IBM India, whose launch has been formally
announced, was looking at setting up assembly and manufacture of business
computers in the country. Initially, the company would be doing this out
of its distribution facility in Pondicherry, said IBM India & IBM
Global Services India Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Ranjit Limaye.
IBM India's focus would be to enhance its concentration on e-business
in India and IBM's focus on software in India would be solutions for
e-business and business intelligence. Its recent Solution Developer
Programme in India is a worldwide initiative that aims to support and
service commercial application developers who develop software using IBM
technologies.
IBM ASEAN and South Asia General Manager Antonio Romero said, from the
regional point of view, the IT market was $10 billion of which India
constituted one-third. ``Through India, we would support and market
solutions for Internet service providers. Some of the solutions so far
produced have been so innovative that we are exporting them,'' he added.
IBM would also look at the small and medium industry segment and would
have a road-show for them in the country to demonstrate its products.
