IBM India, whose launch has been formally

announced, was looking at setting up assembly and manufacture of business

computers in the country. Initially, the company would be doing this out

of its distribution facility in Pondicherry, said IBM India & IBM

Global Services India Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Ranjit Limaye.

IBM India's focus would be to enhance its concentration on e-business

in India and IBM's focus on software in India would be solutions for

e-business and business intelligence. Its recent Solution Developer

Programme in India is a worldwide initiative that aims to support and

technologies.

IBM ASEAN and South Asia General Manager Antonio Romero said, from the

regional point of view, the IT market was $10 billion of which India

constituted one-third. ``Through India, we would support and market

solutions for Internet service providers. Some of the solutions so far

produced have been so innovative that we are exporting them,'' he added.

IBM would also look at the small and medium industry segment and would
