IBM launches enterprise storage server

NEW DELHI, August 19: Tata IBM has announced the launch of its Enterprise Storage

Server (ESS) in India, targeted at enterprises with large data storage requirements such

as banks, credit card organizations, telecom, ISPs, etc. Starting with a price point of Rs

1.2 crore, the storage capacity ranges from 420 GB to 11.2 terabytes. The product, built

around IBM's Storage Area Network initiative, is based on Seascape architecture. It

enables integration of data across environments such as Unix and NT and platforms such as

S/390, RS/6000 and even Compaq, HP and Sun servers.

"The data is growing at a rate of 80% and many companies already have data over

200 GB. Back up is another issue as is data management. With e-commerce another growing

area, the data storage requirement is increasing," says Tata IBM Vice

President-Systems Nipun Mehrotra,. The product offers features of scalability, enhanced

performance for multiple processing on volumes and servers at I/O rates exceeding 30,000

per second and connectivity to different platforms. The company will also introduce

virtual architecture for data compression of up to four times.
