Addressing to the gathered developer community during the annual rational developer conference, Hayden Lindsey, VP, Distinguished Engineer, enterprise tools and compilers, IBM rational software said, “EGL is a high level programming language designed to simplify the creation of business software by shielding a developer from the complexity of middleware.”

Answering to the queries from the developers during the session on the topic "Enterprise Modernization: Lowering the Cost of Multi-Platform Application Development and Delivery," Lindsey said that with EGL, a user can access and orchestrate existing code to create new services, enterprise mashups, and rich Internet applications (RIAs) with only a limited background in computer science.

“Enterprises want to build modern, multi platform applications with extra and new staff. But they have different teams of developing for each platform an re-training them to all the new technologies would be costly, time consuming and often impractical,” added Lindsay

He further mentioned that their new language, EGL is written above middleware as against others languages which are written above operating system and we believe, they can address to the needs of developers and enterprises in a simpler way.

IBM's new EGL aims to deliver flexibility, high productivity and platform portability for existing and new developers when they build all types of modern enterprise applications.

Enterprises want to reduce tool support, cost and move to modern platform, language and tools but they are struck on poorly supported, expensive legacy development platform.

“Here in IBM, we offer them to migrate from older languages and stagnant platform to modern developer platform and tools through Rational software, delivering greatly reduced development and platform support cost,” added Lindsey.
