BANGALORE: IBM India will introduce first Intel-based notebook computers with integrated wireless local area network capabilities in the last quarter of the year 2000. Along with this, the company is announcing the Bluetooth PC card options for its notebook and desktop computers.

The new IBM ThinkPad I Series 1300 model notebook offers 802.11b wireless LAN capabilities. These are compatible with IBM’s recently announced High Rate Wireless LAN access point, linking wireless ThinkPad notebooks to wired networks. This will also be used to connect other ThinkPad notebooks and IBM NetVista desktop computers using the new IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card.

Speaking about the new product, IBM India Personal Systems group country manager Shashi Mal said, "Customers are today looking at being connected to their business and the Internet, without being connected to many wires. With the first of its kind integrated wireless notebook, IBM is helping customers easy access to their business and reduce their investment in network infrastructure."
